Major General Gordon "Skip” Davis is the Deputy Chief of Staff, Operations and Intelligence, Supreme Headquarters Allied Powers Europe, Casteau, Belgium. He was raised in Florida and in 1981 graduated from the United States Military Academy where he received a Bachelor of Science degree and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry. MG Davis’ last assignment was Deputy Commanding General U.S. Combined Arms Center for Leader Development & Education, Deputy Commandant U.S. Army Command and General Staff College at Fort Leavenworth, Kansas.
MG Davis served as the Deputy Chief of Staff Operations and Intelligence for the Allied Rapid Reaction Corps. He deployed to Afghanistan as the ISAF Joint Command CJ5 and as Deputy Commanding General 1st Cavalry Division. In addition to Afghanistan and Iraq, MG Davis participated in U.S., NATO, and United Nations operations in Bosnia, Mozambique, Zaire, Rwanda, Congo and Liberia.
MG Davis has served as a Rifle Platoon Leader, Company Commander, Battalion Operations Officer, Brigade Executive Officer, and Chief of Staff of airborne units in Europe and the United States. He served as the S3 of a Mountain Infantry Battalion and Regiment in the Italian Army. He also served on Brigade, Division, and U.S. and NATO Corps staffs. MG Davis commanded 2nd Battalion, 29th Infantry Regiment. Following battalion command, he was the Deputy Brigade Commander, 3rd Brigade, 3rd Infantry Division. MG Davis commanded the 2nd Brigade, 78th Division at Fort Drum, New York, during which time he deployed the Brigade in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom. Following brigade command, he was the Deputy Commander and Chief of Staff of Southern European Task Force (Airborne) in Vicenza, Italy. MG Davis then served in Afghanistan as the Chief, Strategic Advisory Group to Commander, International Security Assistance Force (ISAF).
His military qualifications include Airborne, Ranger, Pathfinder, Jumpmaster, Jungle Warfare and Airlift Operations. His military education includes the Command and General Staff College and the Army War College. MG Davis has a Master’s Degree in Strategic Studies, and Master’s Degrees in Business and International Relations obtained in France where he studied as an Olmsted Scholar.
His major awards include the Defense Superior Service Medal, Legion of Merit, Bronze Star, Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal, Italian Bronze Cross, and Polish Army Silver Medal. His decorations include the Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Expert Infantryman’s Badge, Master Parachutist Badge, Pathfinder Badge, and Ranger Tab.
MG Davis enjoys reading, travelling and triathlons. He is married to Rita Soso and they have two adult daughters, Stefania and Victoria.
